So I'm teaching summer school this year and right now (5 days before class starts) nothing is complete. Imagine our surprise when we had to write curriculum the week before class starts. Never mind hiring took place in March. What a brutal week.

The chronic slacker mentioned to me at graduation that he "really appreciated" what I did for him and he'll "never forget it".

I didn't know what to say but my initial reaction was just to roll my eyes. Some may say that I take teaching too seriously to be even bothered by the incident but I disagree. One must have values, priniples, etc. that are unwavering. Even to reach a compromise.
